1. What is SeaDream Yacht Club?
SeaDream Yacht Club is an innovative, new yachting company that operates
the twin, ultra-luxury mega yachts SeaDream I and SeaDream II. When they
were originally introduced they soon became the prototypes of the casual
and intimate yachting experience. SeaDream Yacht Club has built upon
this legacy and today the two sleek and rakish SeaDream yachts are
highly acclaimed by discerning travelers seeking a unique seagoing
experience and by travel industry observers everywhere.
2. How and when did SeaDream Yacht Club come into being?
SeaDream Yacht Club was founded in September of 2001 by Norwegian
entrepreneur Atle Brynestad who founded Seabourn Cruise Line and Larry
Pimentel, who was President of Seabourn under Brynestad and later
President and CEO of the merged companies Cunard-Seabourn. Pimentel is
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SeaDream and a co-owner. The two
friends, Brynestad and Pimentel, brought into SeaDream a small group of
management colleagues with vast travel industry experience as well as
shipboard officers and staff of unequaled ability.
3. Why is SeaDream Called a Yacht Club?
As our Chairman says "We are not a cruise line. We are a yacht company
and we provide a yachting experience." Yachting features an open and
unstructured ambience that provides guests the ability to fulfill their
own dreams – call them "seadreams" if you will – at their own pace and
in their own style. We like to express this as "No clocks, no crowds, no
lines, no stress." The key word for the SeaDream yachting experience is
"unstructured. It's all about personal choice. Think of it as a free
form holiday in which guests fall into a "seadream" and believe that
they are aboard their own yacht. That's why we say SeaDream is a yacht
company; not a cruise line.
4. What are some of the highlights of the SeaDream yachting
experience?
- Flexible Schedules and
Itineraries – Basically, SeaDream I and II sail on scheduled,
seven-day schedules and itineraries. Nevertheless, although SeaDream
yachts depart their first port of call and arrive at their last port
of call as scheduled, arrivals and departures at intermediate ports
are not necessarily cast in stone. Our Captains have the authority to
adjust for local opportunities. So our yachts frequently make
unscheduled calls at small ports to visit a local fish market, for
example, or to remain longer than scheduled in a secluded bay so
guests can enjoy a few more hours of water sports.
- Overnighting in Key Ports
– Let's go back to cruise ships for a moment. Cruise ships usually
arrive at ports of call in the early morning and depart in the evening
of the same day. But SeaDream yachts overnight at many ports of call.
You'll find many examples when you go into the itinerary section of
this website. But let us give you just a couple of examples here: One
port in the Caribbean where we overnight is Gustavia on the French
island, St. Barts. When we sail in the Mediterranean we overnight at
the French Riviera port of St. Tropez. The point is the action doesn't
even get started in ports such as these until late in the evening and
we have found that our guests are active people who don't want to miss
anything.
- Officers and Staff Lead
Guests on Personal Off-Ship Experiences – Our officers and staff
know our ports of call like the backs of their hands. They are experts
and they are also active, interesting people just like the guests they
serve. So, on each sailing Officers and Staff frequently lead our
guests to their favorite sites for their favorite experiences. So,
guests might have the chance to go snorkeling with the Captain in an
area he knows well and enjoys. Or, the Activities Director might lead
guests on a shoreside hike that he has uncovered on a previous visit.
Guest may also want to join our Chef for a visit to his favorite
patisserie or to a fine fish market where he plans to select some
delicacies to put on the menu that evening. There is no cost for these
shoreside opportunities.
- Wellness and Well-Being
– Wellness and Well-Being for both body and mind are high priorities
with our guests and a concept that we at SeaDream take very seriously.
In fact, we operate our own Wellness Center complete with Asian Spa
and Fitness Center Gymnasium with a large, highly-trained staff. This
is another point of differentiation from the usual cruise line
concept. Further, Our Wellness Center is under the personal direction
of an internationally-recognized expert Dr. Mohammed Saeme, MD, Ph.D.
whose philosophy encompasses a lifestyle that encourages the perfect
balance found when mind and body are in harmony. A full complement of
spa treatments are available gymnasium equipment featuring treadmills,
elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, free weights all with flat
screen TVs and DVD players. A personal trainer is available. Tai chi,
yoga and Aerobics on deck are available as requested by guests. There
is also a hair and nail salon. Guests will also find a well-equipped
medical facility aboard both our yachts and a licensed, highly-trained
physician aboard all of our sailings.
- The Golf Simulator – On
SeaDream yachts guests are able to play 50 championship courses on our
state-of-the-art Golf Simulator. Additionally, we have a partnership
with the renowned Orlimar Golf Company, creator of the famed Orlimar
Golf Clubs and other golfing equipment. Hence, our guests use Orlimar
men's and women's clubs exclusively when they use the Golf Simulator.
Guests who wish to purchase Orlimar Clubs aboard after trying them out
with the simulator may do so. Their purchase will be drop-shipped" to
them directly from the factory.
- The Caviar and Champagne
Splash – Of course, our guests expect to be able to enjoy caviar
and champagne whenever and wherever they wish. So, we have developed
our inimitable Caviar and Champagne Splash – We use the word "Splash"
advisedly. Aboard our yachts, around and "in" our outdoor swimming
pool our staff serves guests Caviar and Champagne. It's fun and
splashy. Ashore, on secluded beaches, along with a beach barbecue or
picnic, we offer our Champagne and Caviar Splash right at water's
edge. Guests don't know which is louder – the click of camera shutters
or the fizz of champagne.
- Balinese Sun Beds – Each
of our yachts features the sensational Balinese Sun Beds. These,
highly popular, double sun beds are raised above the sightline of the
yacht's railings to provide unobstructed views. Large umbrella's can
provide shade when desired. Guests sunbathe, read, look out to sea, or
just snooze.
- The Library – An elegant
library, cozy and quiet, with books, magazines, newspapers, board
games and computers with internet connections.
- The SeaDream Boutique –
The Boutique is open when at sea to allow guests to purchase duty
free. It offers fine gifts of international name brands, sports- and
yacht-wear, both with and without SeaDream logos, and necessary
personal items guests may have neglected to bring with them.
- Water Sports Marina –
Each yacht features a large water sports Marina that is extended from
vessel's stern in secluded, clear bays and coves. Here guests can
enjoy a variety of water sports activities including kayaking, water
skiing, tubing, boarding, wave running, snorkeling and sunfish
sailing.
- Open Bridge Policy – If
guests were aboard their own yachts (and many do have their own
yachts) they can visit the bridge any time they wish. So too, they can
do so on their SeaDream yacht. Guests enjoy dropping by for coffee
and, perhaps a Danish, in the morning and to check with the captain on
the yacht's position, to estimate the time to landfall, or just to
seek out marine life in the sea or in the air.
- And Of Course, Fine Dining
– While we hesitate to use that overworked and undervalued phrase
"gourmet dining," we can with assurance declare that the open-seating
dining aboard SeaDream I and II is a gourmet experience and has been
highly rated in authoritative guides and other publications. You might
also want to check the "What They are Saying about SeaDream" section
of this website where you will find testimonials from our guests. On
SeaDream yachts guests are able to dine both indoors and outdoors –
both in high style and in a casual ambience.
The Main Dining Salon is a spectacular and elegant indoor space, large
enough to accommodate all guests. The menu is eclectic, a combination
of classics and unusual international offerings. The Maitre'd seats
guests in small or larger groups and, if a couple wishes to focus only
on each other at a table for two, that's fine too.
Guests also dine in the dramatic Topside Restaurant, open to mild sea
breezes but shaded from the sun. Again, if a couple wishes to dine
privately, there are a number of small alcoves where they may do so.
There is also 24-hour room service that features light, healthful
offerings. In the afternoon tea is served in the Library where guests
may enjoy a variety of tea sandwiches, scones, cookies and the like.
Finally, a wide selection of Canapes and Caviar are served in the Main
Lounge, and fresh-cut sandwiches may be found at the Top of the Yacht
Bar and by the swimming pool. Guests who crave Caviar will find it
available at all times.
- The Wine Cellar – Our
Sommeliers are masters of their wine cellars at sea that feature many
of the world's most classic vintages and an array of little-known, but
surprisingly enticing wines. Classic wines are available at surprising
prices but the Sommeliers also pour a selection of fine reds and
whites complimentary at luncheon and dinner.
5. What is the dress
code on SeaDream?
No Tux for Guys, No Gala Gowns for Gals – The SeaDream yachting
experience is a casual affair. There is no formal dress code. When asked
about what our guests wear during the day or in the evening, we always
respond by using the phrase "Resort Casual" – sportswear for the
activity of your choice, easy to wear and comfortable attire for
shoreside visits. For specific clothing suggestions you may want to
speak to a travel agent or telephone us. Also, if you look at the some
of the photos on this website you will see what some of our guests are
wearing and this may be helpful to you.
6. What Kind of Guest Accommodations are found on SeaDream
Yachts?
The answer to that question is: As fine, or finer than found on elegant
yachts anywhere in the world. Specifically, SeaDream I and SeaDream II
are mega yachts with only up to 55 guest accommodations. Fifty-four of
these are what we call Yacht Club Staterooms of 195 square feet. Sixteen
of these are convertible to eight Commodore Club (double) Staterooms of
390 square feet. There is also an Owner's Suite of 450 square feet.
Therefore, our yachts will accommodate from 47 to 55 couples based on
how the staterooms are configured. Elsewhere on this website can be
found stateroom layouts and deck plans that will expand on what we have
said here. Of course, you can also take a look at the photo section on
the website which will show you exactly what these accommodations look
like. Then too, you can go into our "Virtual" Brochure and see these
staterooms in 360 degree, revolving format.
7. What services and amenities will be found aboard these
yachts?
Each stateroom features a marble-clad bathroom with amenities by
the internationally-known company, Bulgari, and plush Turkish cotton
bathrobes. There are also separate, multi-jet, massage shower units and
lighted, magnifying mirrors. Each Stateroom living-room area features an
Entertainment Center with a large, flat screen, plasma television, CD
and DVD systems, internet ready outlets and personalized stationery.
Each stateroom also has a bar and refrigerator unit stocked with
complimentary beer, soft drinks and bottled spring water. This bar can
also be stocked with guests' choices of spirits and wines at minimal
cost. Beds, which are conformed to guests' choices as singles or
doubles, feature the highest quality down pillows, Belgian bed linens
and a choice of a duvet or woolen blankets.
Both SeaDream yachts feature luxurious, but intimate, Public Rooms.
These include an indoor Dining Salon with adjacent Board Room that
affords privacy to small business or family groups, a Main Lounge with
dance floor and bar (large enough to accommodate all guests at one
time), a large Reception Area, our Wellness Center with Asian Spa and
Fitness Center, Piano Bar, Casino, Library and Boutique.
Outdoors Aboard Ship - Up on deck are: Comfortable deck chairs,
raised, double Balinese, sun beds, Captain's Chairs with mounted, high
powered binoculars for scanning the sea and shoreline. Swimming pool,
Jacuzzi. Private outdoor dining alcoves. The open teakwood decks are
ideal for strolling and looking out to sea. The stern Marina is for
water sports activities. The Top of the Yacht Bar is a popular gathering
spot as is the Topside Restaurant. There are even outdoor dining alcoves
for privacy.
Open Bar Policy - There is a complimentary open bar policy in
public rooms and in public space on deck.
Entertainment on Board - Yachting is a highly personal
experience. So is our entertainment. There are no glitzy revues, no
revolving stages with smoke and mirrors. There is an intimate Piano Bar,
light music in the Main Lounge, first run movies or other special films
in the Main Lounge and under the stars by the swimming pool, or your
choice of CDs and DVDs in staterooms. In addition guests may check out
at no cost an MP3 Jukebox stocked with all types of music – enough for
24 hours a day, for the complete sailing without repeating a selection.
Also, SeaDream guests like to entertain themselves. The art of
conversation is considered important on SeaDream Yachts. So is the art
of reading, sunbathing on deck or snoozing in the shade.
Use of Internet - Internet access is available from all
staterooms. The charge is $35 for 24 hours of unlimited access.
Additionally, guests may access the internet through computers in the
Library. The charge is $5 for the first 10 minutes and $3 for each
additional, 10 minute period.
8. What to do Ashore?
Besides the opportunity to join staff members for no-cost, personal off
ship experiences in various ports of call, mentioned above, SeaDream
offers a series of exclusive Yachting Land Adventures. These are
custom-designed shore excursions, priced nominally, that our guests
appreciate, but for guests who want to do their own thing, the
Activities Director will conduct informal talks prior to each port of
call. These talks help guests orient themselves and deal with such
topics as getting around, shopping and dining.
9. What is the Smoking Policy Aboard these Yachts?
SeaDream observes a No Smoking Policy in the Staterooms and all interior
spaces. It does permit smoking outdoors on Decks 3, 4 and 6.
10. What about Service and Tipping?
Service is of the highest order aboard the SeaDream Yachts.
Authoritative guides and other publications give us their highest
ratings. Our service may be characterized as being in the European
style. Our international service staff is recruited largely from noted
hotels and restaurants worldwide. Gratuities are included in the cost of
the sailing. Guests aboard our yachts do not have to carry cash or
constantly sign chits. No tipping is necessary.
11. What about the Complete Redesign and Refit of the
Yachts?
As we said earlier in this fact sheet, SeaDream I and II were the
prototypes of the luxurious, casual and intimate yachting experience.
When we took over the twin yachts in September 2001, we made plans for
their total redesign and refit that would provide discriminating guests
with nothing short of a new and unique yachting experience. Hence,
SeaDream II underwent redesign and refit in January 2002 and SeaDream I
underwent the same rigorous redesign and refit in April 2002. This work
was done at the highly-respected Lloyd-Werft Shipyards in Bremerhaven,
Germany. SeaDream I and II are identical. Guests are hard put to find
differences in the two.
12. Where do the SeaDream Yachts Sail?
In summer months SeaDream I and II sail to small, seldom-visited
yachting ports along the Mediterranean Coast, into the Greek islands and
to some classic cities in those areas. Similarly, in the winter months
the twin yachts sail in the Caribbean and to small yachting ports
primarily in the U.S.Virgin Islands with embarkations in St. Thomas,
Barbados and San Juan. These deployments are usually seven-day sailings
with some four and five day sailings that appeal to the charter market.
For the most part the two yachts sail on the same itineraries at the
same time, with perhaps only the order of ports being changed. This is
because we frequently will charter one or the other yacht and
accommodate previously booked guests on the alternative yacht during the
same time period. In the Mediterranean our yachts home port in Monte
Carlo and Nice. In the Americas they home port in St. Thomas, U.S.
Virgin Islands. As stated above, our Captains have the authority to make
changes in the itineraries and schedules to please the guests. For
detailed information on Itineraries, Ports and Schedules see that
section of this website.
13. What Kind of Guests do these SeaDream Yachts attract?
Guests aboard our yachts are affluent, discerning, active travelers who
have highly personal and casual lifestyles. The average age of SeaDream
guests is 45 years. The unstructured nature of life aboard SeaDream I
and II has strong appeal for these discriminating travelers. Besides
active individuals and couples, SeaDream caters to small groups of
likeminded travelers and the yachts are also available for full ship
charter for corporate meetings, incentive groups or individual families.
14. How about Some Vital Statistics?
The Country of Registry for both SeaDream yachts is the Bahamas. Gross
tonnage of each is 4260. Length is 344 feet. Beam is 47 feet. Speed is
17 knots. Guest capacity is 110. Officers, staff and crew are
international and number 90 per yacht. Both yachts are stabilized and
fully air-conditioned with individual stateroom thermostats, and comply
with SOLAS 2005 First Safety Standards. |
