Our Pacific
Northwest expeditions transit remarkable diversity –
from lush farmlands to dense forests, from stark
desertscapes to the brimming beds of Victoria’s
sumptuous Butchart Gardens. And all along the way, like
a welcome and personal soundtrack, we have the company
of our Naturalists and Historians – to explain and
animate the life of this region for us.
The mighty sweep and grandeur of the big Northwestern
waterways. The enchanted realm of the pristine San
Juan Islands. The grand traditions and rich art forms of
the Pacific Northwest tribes. The still, clear waters of
Johnstone Strait, a haven for breaching orcas. The
unexpected pleasures of discovering seldom-visited
portions of the British Columbia coast. On our “Islands
and Wildlife of the Pacific Northwest” expedition, we
voyage on the legendary waters of the Pacific Northwest
much as Captains Cook and Vancouver did – to see where
they go. And to observe the richness and diversity of
the life in those waters and along their coasts.
Head into Lewis & Clark country with us and you’ll
see a landscape that much as it did when they saw it two
centuries ago. You’ll climb a mountain by voyaging
up a river – and watch the Columbia change character as
we journey from habitation into the sculptural wilds of
steppe and butte, exploring the pristine reaches of the
Snake and Palouse Rivers, pushing deeper upriver until
we hit the Washington-Idaho border. Instead of Sacajawea
along the trail, you’ll have the equally knowledgeable
company of expert Historians and Naturalists. You’ll
relive, “In the Wake of Lewis & Clark” on an expedition
of your own, a vital chapter in our nation’s history.
Best of all, you’ll be part of the current Lewis & Clark
Bicentennial “fever,” without getting caught in tourist
throngs or traffic!
