A Singular Mix of Pleasures – Discover the Caribbean under Full Sail

When the harsh winter months roll in nothing seems dreamier than escaping to the warmth and charm of the Caribbean. But the truth is there are many ways to see the Caribbean. It all depends, of course, on what you’re looking for. What we offer differs greatly from the run-of-the-mill, tourist-laden experience. Simply fly to St. John’s, Antigua and set foot aboard the Sea Cloud II – an elegant hand-sailed, three-masted barque. This romantic tall ship is herself an intoxicating destination. And this is not an exaggeration by any means. Just ask anyone who’s been on board to witness the breathtaking beauty in her polished teak decks and seemingly endless billowy sails. There’s an exhilaration that’s almost hard to describe – and this is your luxurious home for our week-long sailing. Time under sail is coupled with plenty of opportunities to swim and snorkel in crystalline waters, and to take Zodiacs ashore to an array of idyllic islands. Anchor in small bays such as Terre-de-Haut on Iles des Saintes and Port Elizabeth on Bequia to wander the lovely galleries and visit historic sites. Experience an intriguing blend of cultures on islands with residents of African and European descent. Stroll white-sand beaches of profound beauty. This is a journey for the memory books. Explore some of the hidden treasures of the Leeward and Windward Isles and experience the warm trade winds carrying Sea Cloud II onto her next destination. There’s no question you should join us.

Some experiences that define our expeditions in the Caribbean:

Under Sail. Up to 29,600 square feet of sail—all set by hand—unfurl before your eyes. Learn the basics of square sail operations aboard the most beautiful barque of our age. With ample deck space fore, aft and abeam to watch the action aloft, and plenty of comfortable steamer chairs to lounge in, the almost-lost art of being at sea under sail frames your view of the Caribbean past and present.

A surprising cultural mosaic. Today’s comfortable Caribbean personality that we find so welcoming is superimposed on a surprising diversity of historic culture and architecture. French, Dutch, English and Spaniards traded these islands as pawns and leave their persisting imprints. The Lindblad Expeditions staff will help to illuminate and navigate these cultures and languages historic and contemporary.

“Liming.” The Caribbean word for the pastime of hanging out, chilling, or relaxing with friends at a bar, restaurant, or café. Whether it is on the deck of the nicest ship in the bay, along the harbor waterfront, or under the shade of a beach-back palm, you’ll have plenty of time for true Caribbean liming.

Swim, Snorkel, Sun and Shade. No matter how you look at it, this is the main appeal of the Lesser Antilles during the northern winter. Even if it’s been awhile since you’ve last snorkeled or swam, our staff will make it safe, easy and comfortable.

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum! Sailing the Caribbean with a full-rigged attitude is first and foremost a barrel of fun!

“Ships are the nearest things to dreams that hands have ever made, for somewhere deep in their oaken hearts the soul of a song is laid.” – Robert N. Rose from the poem “Ships”
