Day 2
Monday - L, D
To Cuzco/To the Sacred Valley of the Incas
Arrive in Lima and meet your local tour representative,
who will gather the rest of the group and assist you
with the check in for your flight to Cuzco. As you fly
into Cuzco, you are greeted by the towering apus (sacred
mountains) with their shimmering caps of snow. Upon
arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your
special accommodations in the Sacred Valley of the
Incas. Urubamba is a place designed to integrate the
allure of nature and the magic of the Sacred Valley. The
balance of the day is at leisure to adapt to the change
in altitude through quiet time for meditation and
reflection. In the later afternoon, join the group for
an introductory meeting, followed by your "Welcome to
Peru" dinner

3 Tuesday - B, L, D
Sacred Valley/Pisac Market/Ollantaytambo
Depart for the colorful town of Pisac for a visit to the
local marketplace, where you will delight in the many
beautiful and varied native handicrafts available, and
can browse for the perfect gift or memento. This
afternoon, visit Ollantaytambo, the Sanctuary of the
Wind, with its original Inca walls and doorways. Explore
the Sanctuary, an Inca fortress/temple, and visit the
royal baths, the sacred Condor Temple, and the main
altar of the temple, where you have time for meditation
and reflection among the massive stones. Return to the
hotel for dinner

4 Wednesday - B, L
To Machu Picchu
Depart for the train station in Ollantaytambo, board and
venture deep into the mountain valleys of the high
jungle. Arrive in Aguas Calientes, the pueblo at the
base of Machu Picchu. Check into the hotel and board a
bus for the half-hour ride up several switchbacks to the
hidden and mysterious sanctuary at the top of the
mountain--enigmatic Machu Picchu, crown jewel of the
Andes! Here among the sacred Apus, above the clouds and
away from civilization, tour the important power spots
in the citadel. After a delicious buffet lunch of
traditional Peruvian cuisine, re-enter the citadel to
explore on your own. Late in the afternoon, return to
the hotel in Aguas Calientes, where you could enjoy a
relaxing soak in the local hot springs. Dinner is on
your own.

5 Thursday - B
Machu Picchu/Return to Cuzco
During your morning at leisure, you could opt to return
to Machu Picchu on your own, climb the towering sister
peak of Huayna Picchu ("Young Peak") or walk up to the
Inti Punku (the "Sun Gate"), where the famous Inca trail
comes into Machu Picchu. Lunch is on your own before
taking the midafternoon train to Cuzco. Upon arrival,
enjoy the remainder of the day for your own pursuits

6 Friday - B, L, D
Cuzco/Visit sacred temples
After a buffet breakfast, depart for a tour of sacred
sites in and nearby to Cuzco, beginning with the
Koricancha, the Inca temple of the Sun and hub of the
Inca's world. Next, visit Tambo Machay, the private
baths of the Incan nobles and priests, where you have
time for meditation and reflection among the gigantic
stones of the springfed baths. Continue to the mighty
fortress of Sacsayhuaman to see some of the most amazing
Inca architecture After a picnic lunch in the
countryside, visit the Temple of the Moon, a cave long
used by shamen of the Cuzco area. For thousands of
years, they have made traditional offerings to the
Pachamama here. A local ritual specialist will lead the
group in a shamanic ceremony to connect with the
powerful feminine healing energies and to open our
hearts more fully to Mother Earth and her gifts of love
and wisdom. Later in the afternoon, return to Cuzco,
with free time to visit the colonial cathedrals, and
archaeology or art museums. You might also want to take
this final opportunity to explore the traditional
marketplace or the shops of local artisans. Join the
group for your farewell dinner this evening

7 Saturday - B
Conclude Cuzco
For those returning to the USA, transfer to the airport
for your connecting flights home. Others may elect to
continue their South American explorations on the Lake
Titicaca extension. |
